Warkton Community Orchard Update

4 trees (two St Edmunds Pippins and two Newton Wonders) were planted in March. These trees are of a semi dwarf variety on M26 rootstock which should grow to a height of 2 to 3 meters plus. With permission from Boughton we are now in a position to complete the planting scheme as outlined in the plan below. The new trees will be of a larger type. The Estate has agreed to donate a single tree to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Mr Victor Austen will take the lead in sourcing and planting further trees. We hope to order in the next few weeks well ahead of the planting season in November. If any villager wishes to assist Vic and join the Orchard working group Vic may be contacted by email (victorausten@gmail.com) or phone (07858 678235).

Thanks to the generosity of villagers the council has sufficient funds to purchase the trees. If anyone wishes to make a further donation to the Warkton Jubilee Orchard project they should contact the Clerk, Ruby Cole (warktonclerk@gmail.com).
