Warkton Community Orchard Update

It is just over one year since parish councillors launched the Warkton Community Orchard project. Thank you to all villagers for your commitment to this project. We have collated your email replies with offers of help. At a future date we will establish a Warkton Community Orchard maintenance group with a nominated lead councillor and volunteers from the village.

Our thanks are due to Charles Lamb who produced a plan for the community orchard. We have now received outline permission from Boughton to proceed. The first tree, donated by the Duke of Buccleuch, will hopefully be in position in the next two or three weeks.

The plan has 9 fruit trees: 5 apples (red), 2 plums (purple) and 2 pears (yellow). With advice from Boughton we plan to order heritage varieties. This is a matter of some urgency since optimum planting time is almost over.
